The Reynella Horse Trials
were held over the weekend of the 6th & 7th of May at Tangari Park, Reynella. The
dressage was held on Saturday with the showjumping and cross country phases running
simultaneously on Sunday. This years cross country course was designed by Tony Johnson and
Karin Matten. It was a challenging yet safe course with many new jumps and the return of
old favourites like the Gawler Seat and Normandy Bank.Introductory Class After the dressage Paul Pritchard & Beaujolais were narrow leaders over Sally Watt & Dolly Bird with Lara Pizimolas & Venturer of Beckworth in third. Paul Pritchard & Beaujolais finished on their dressage score of 54.3 after faultless displays cross country and in showjumping to win the class. Sally Watt & Dolly Bird did likewise with a score of 54.6 for second overall. Claire Levien & Gus had been fifth after the dressage with 59.1 but improved to third after Lara Pizimolas & Venturer of Beckworth had a stop on the cross country course and Vicki Warner & Crown Prince withdrew from the cross country.
Gillian Rolton & Aspire held a five point lead after the dressage over Lara Pizimolas & Harvey Wallbanger but after incurring time faults cross country and having two rails down in the showjumping finished on a score of 72.6. Lara Pizimolas & Harvey Wallbanger completed the jumping phases without penalty to win on their dressage score of 62.4. Second placed Kerrie Bowman & Fourwinds Walkara on 64.8 were the only other combination to complete the class on their dressage score as Veronica Hoile & Oakvale Monte collected 0.4 time penalty to finish with 69.4. Gillian Rolton & Aspire finished fourth on the same overall score as Megan Jones & KP Jamaica.
Pre Novice Class Gillian Canapini & Linlithgow led on 57.6 after the dressage but withdrew after a disastrous cross country where they clocked up 29.2 time penalties and one refusal. Luke Jones & Interloper were second on 58.1 before the jumping phases where they were one of only three combinations to go clear and finish on their dressage score. Second overall was Katie McMahon & Mistress Monjulia on 62.4 despite incurring 2.4 time penalties cross country. Louise Miller & Musicanna also finished on their dressage score of 63.9 for third. Malcolm Maytom & CP Vavoom were tenth after the dressage but upon completing the event without further penalty jumped to fourth overall. Novice Class Only one competitor completed the three phases on their dressage score and that was the overall winner Tara Trebilcock & Satiric with 64.4. The clear leader after the dressage on 51.3 was Wendy Schaeffer & Koyuna Sun Smoke but this pair withdrew after the cross country despite only recording a further 1.2 time penalties. Lisa Lloyd & Somewhat Cavalier were fifth after the dressage but with only 4.8 time penalties in the jumping finished second overall on 67.5. Jacqui Sandland & Hidden Intentions were in third with 59.4 after the dressage and despite recording ten penalties in the showjumping held third with 69.4. Fiona Guthrie & Bejan were second after the dressage with 55.8 but with ten cross country time penalties then a rail down and a further showjumping time fault finished fourth overall with 71.8.
Wendy Schaeffer and Sun Smart led with a score of 49.8 after the dressage and despite recording eight time penalties cross country were the overall winners on 57.8. Kerrie Bowman and Fourwinds Nicholson were second on 51.6 after the dressage and despite 7.2 time penalties and a rail down showjumping held second overall with 63.8. Tracey Leigh and Barastoc Tullamore improved from seventh after the dressage to third overall with only eight time penalties added for 70.1. Advanced Class This class may have only had five competitors but it was an action packed event. Megan Jones & KP Irish Hallmark led after the dressage on 49.8 as Megan's other horse PPP Blucher Mop held second with 57.6. Gillian Rolton & Endeavour were third on 59.4 from Seumas Marwood & BS Sidewinder with 62.4 and Luke Jones & Racketeer on 67.8. Megan Jones & PPP Blucher Mop were first to go cross country finishing with 9.2 time penalties and went on to have a rail down in showjumping but held second with 71.8. Luke Jones and Racketeer were next but after a spectacular refusal at the House Complex Luke had to dismount to adjust gear and after that Racketeer appeared to lose concentration and was eliminated at the water complex. Seumas Marwood & Sidewinder were also stopped at the water but it was by officials went it was announced that this pair had jumped the wrong obstacle at fence one and were therefore disqualified. Gillian Rolton & Endeavour went out next but incurred a stop and 25.2 time faults to finish third on 104.6. Megan Jones & KP Irish Hallmark were the last to go and despite 9.6 time penalties cross country and a rail down showjumping easily won the class on 64.4. |
