Race 7 - Clipsal
Stakes 1100m Hand Pass shared the early lead with Lazing About and Lezayre with Comedy Court next followed by Suit on the rail then Manetti with Point Danger next and Jester Chester further back. On settling Hand Pass led narrowly from Lezayre then Lazing About and Suit with Point Danger four wide and Jester Chester the widest runner. Around the turn Lezayre hit the front narrowly from Hand Pass with Lazing About moving up wider followed by Point Danger and Suit pocketed along the rail. With 300m to go Lazing About hit the front well off the rails from Hand Pass who was fighting back with Suit pocketed behind him trying to squeeze through inside Lezayre as Comedy Court tried to get a run inside the leader. At the 200m Lezayre ran out of room between Suit and Comedy Court resulting in a dramatic fall. Lezayre's jockey Shayne Cahill was lucky to miss the feet of Inkamulla who narrowly missed the pair. Jester Chester was unable to avoid the fallen Lezayre as she rolled onto her back and was brought down. Meanwhile Lazing About has a clear lead but Point Danger (below) was charging down the centre of the track with Comedy Court running on near the rails. In the concluding stages Point Danger came away to win by a length from Lazing About with Comedy Court third. Both fallen horses were quickly to their feet with Lezayre suffering a depressed fracture to her cheekbone and Jester Chester general soreness. Shayne Cahill (rider of Lezayre) was taken to hospital for concussion whereas Brendan Sweeney (Jester Chester) appeared OK but reportedly felt unwell later Saturday night. |
