Race 1 - Lindsay Park Stud Hcp 1457m Lindsay Park is located at Angaston and stands proven Australian sires Caulfield Cup winner Fraar and Melbourne Cup winner Jeune (sire of Bevan, Alharir, McBeal,etc) with the highly rated General Assembly joining the line up for the 2000 season. Raja Shine led early with Buster Dream ahead of a tightly packed field. On settling Jemoon took over the frontrunning from Raja Shine with Arjaye out wide. Passing the 1000m Arjaye took control for Jemoon and Bernardo followed by Raja Shine. Around the home turn Buster Dream made a forward move to take the lead before kicking away from Arjaye with Juroma finishing hard down the outside. In the run to the line Buster Dream cruised home to win easily from Arjaye who fought back to keep second place with Juroma taking third well ahead of the others. Buster Dream is a 3yo bay colt by Housebuster from Sleepy Seattle (Seattle Song) and was ridden by Simon Price. He is trained by Russell Cameron for PG & JM Maher and R & BL Kirby.
Fraar won the Caulfield Cup, Coongy Hcp, Chester Manifold Stakes plus being placed in the Mackinnon Stakes and Hong Kong International Cup (representing Australia) during his successful racing career. At stud he is the sire of stakeswinner Nina Haraka along with Prince Benbara, With Distinction, Bearskin, Fraarie, etc. Tarkay jumped to the lead wide on the track from St Petersburg and Zed Files who were closer to the rail. Around the turn St Petersburg and Zed Files made their runs together taking the lead on straightening as Prince of Revelry ran on from the pack. Passing the 200m St Petersburg gained the upper hand and came away under hands and heels riding to win from Zed Files with Prince of Revelry further back in third place. St Petersburg is a 3yo brown colt by Nureyev from Miss Bold Appeal (Valid Appeal) and was ridden by Simon Price. St Petersburg was bred in the US and foaled in Australia and attracted a price of $700,000 at the yearling sales. He is trained by Peter Hayes for JG Jones.
Chatswood Stud is located in Seymour Victoria and stands Baryshnikov, Bubble Gum Fellow, Geiger Counter and Racer's Edge in the 2000 season. Caddy's Star and All Cheer led early with the latter taking over soon after. Around the turn All Cheer led as John's Brother moved up to second with the rest of the field close behind. On straightening All Cheer and John's Brother kicked away with John's Brother proving superior by the 200m where Skipper began to run on from the back followed by Duchovny wider on the track. In the closing stages John's Brother was in front but Duchovny finished hard in the final strides to lunge at the post to win in a deceptive finish. Close up in third was Skipper. Duchovny is a 4yo bay gelding by Mr Mars from Mrs Parnell (At Talaq) and was ridden by Bradley Vale. He is trained by Pat Barns for CP Green.
Racer's Edge was represented by his first crop of 2yos in 1999-2000. His representatives include the stakeswinner Reflexes plus promising filly Racer's Belle, Rory's Jane, Topazios, etc Denise took the lead shortly after settling from Love to Hula, Froze then Intajaz and Rusty Dusty Grey. Little changed until they turned for home where Denise just led from Double Legend making ground as Rusty Dusty Grey surged forward to hit the lead. Megastar and Jetway made their challenge together out wider but Rusty Dusty Grey was full of running and proved too strong over the final stages to win comfortably from Megastar who grabbed second just in front of Jetway. Rusty Dusty Grey is a 5yo grey gelding by Agameneo from Skagway (Let's Get Physical) and was ridden by DM Holland. He is trained by R Campbell for himself and D Campbell.
Widden Stud is located in the Widden Valley near Denman NSW. For the 2000 season they are standing the imported Anabaa, Barathea, Charnwood Forest and well bred/stakes performed local stallions Filante, Intergaze, Shovhog, Bletcharm, etc On settling Noisy Prospect took up the pacemaking role from George on Broadway with Turbo next. Passing the 1200m Noisy Prospect led at a steady speed from Turbo followed by George on Broadway with Gold Digger next. Little changed until the turn where Turbo dropped out sharply as George on Broadway moved forward as the leading pair drifted on straightening. She's Our Blaze and Ghizhou started to make runs closer to the rail as Gold Digger chased down the outside. With 100m to go George on Broadway had gotten the better of Noisy Prospect but La Moulin was finishing hard along the inside. With 20m to go La Moulin hit the front and went on to win by a long head from George on Broadway with Noisy Prospect third. Sadly Turbo who was pulled up near the winning post was reported to have suffered a severed flexor tendon in her near hind fetlock. La Moulin is a 5yo bay mare by Al Hareb from Fiorita (Turf Ruler). She is trained by David Balfour for AP & CA Field and S Brown.
Irish Jantee strode to the early lead from Angel's Jewel with Hand Pass wide and City Kid on the rail. Around the turn Irish Jantee just led from Angel's Jewel on the outside with City Kid making ground along the rail as Tilt the Scales was blocked for a run behind them. By the 70m City Kid moved level with Irish Jantee as Angel's Jewel started to finishing hard on the outside as Tilt the Scales changed course for a last charge. Inside the last 50m Angel's Jewel came away from the others and withstood the late challenge from Tilt the Scales to win. Third was Irish Jantee. Angel's Jewel is a 5yo bay mare by Made of Gold from Heaven's Girl (Baptism) and completed her career with this win taking her record to 29 starts for 9 wins 7 seconds and 9 thirds. It is planned to send her to Saratoga Springs for the 2000 season. She was ridden by Dwayne Dunn and trained by David Balfour for Milluna Stud.
Charnwood Forest won the Queen Anne Stakes and Challenge Stakes at Group 2 level in the UK plus Group 1 placings in the Sussex Stakes, St James Palace Stakes and Lockinge Stakes. His first Australia crop debut on the racetracks in the 2000-01 season. Honour Code led on settling from Lazing About followed by Gilded Star and Dangerous Reef. The field packed around the turn where Honour Code led but was soon passed by Lazing About who established a slight break over Dangerous Reef and Gilded Star as Buffalo Power started his run down the outside. With 100m to go Gilded Star joined Lazing About as Buffalo Power started to power down the outside. Inside the final 50m Buffalo Power came away from the others to win with Gilded Star close up in second with Dangerous Reef third.
I'm A Superstar took the lead on settling from Long Shadow followed by Hot Raj with Smooth Fella next. Little changed until the 1100m where Hot Raj moved up along the rail to join I'm A Superstar in front from Long Shadow followed by Hexhead and Smooth Fella. The field held their positions until they turned for home where Hot Raj and I'm a Superstar battled it out with Red Astaire trying to go between them as Long Shadow made his bid out wider with At All Times and Smooth Fella finishing hard down the outside. Passing the 200m Red Astaire got through as the leaders tired but Smooth Fella and At All Times were finishing strongly. Smooth Fella finished the better of the two to win by a half length from At All Times with Deaconess finishing hard from well back to take third. Smooth Fella is a 6yo chestnut gelding by Almaarad from Dudley's Heiress (Lord Dudley) and was ridden by David Carney. He is trained by T Dunlop for Smooth Syndicate. |
