Showjumping Day

15th November 2009

Please email barnesphotography@bigpond.com with your postal address for proofs to be posted out directly to you after an event

The final day of competition was again very hot and began to get humid as the high cloud cover set in later in the afternoon.  17 horses of the 19 to complete the cross country phase lined up for the showjumping with Sonja Johnson's Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison withdrawn and Emily Anker's Keniski eliminated at the trot up.  First rider out was Stuart Tinney with Panamera and they were going well until an error in course saw the pair eliminated while Sonja Johnson & Ringwould Jaguar were the first of only 3 to go clear on jumping and time moving from 13th to finish in 10th position and also take out the AQHA Award for the highest placed Quarter Horse in any class.  Stuart Tinney's clear round jumping plus one time fault on Ari De Gwaihir moved the pair from 11th to 7th overall while the next clear round was Megan Jones & Kirby Park Irish Jester who moved up from 6th to third overall on 83.50 penalty points.  Megan Jones & Kirby Park Allofasudden started well but touched a rail midway through the course to ease the pressure a little on Stuart Tinney to finish on second 70.10 and Kirby Park Allofasudden also took out the Magic Millions Thoroughbred Award for the highest placed studbook thoroughbred.  Kirby Park Allofasudden was bred in South Australia and offered for sale as a yearling at the Adelaide Magic Millions Sale.  Registered as Red Ruski he didn't race and soon found himself in his current career path.  Stuart Tinney and Vettori started their round with only 4.3 faults to spare but completed a faultless round to remain on their overnight score of 65.80 to win.  Vettori also took out the Warmblood award for the highest placed Warmblood in the four star competition.

The CCI** class saw two horses eliminated at the morning trot up with 22 left to complete the showjumping phase.  Helen Goddard and Kilburi Mambo were one of only four clear rounds moving from 20th to overall 14th place on 71.80 while both Tegan Lush on Tempus Fugit and Niki Chapman & Milford Monarch moved up four spots to finish in 11th and 12th on 65.90 and 68.10 respectively.  The only other clear round was Craig Barrett & Sandhills Brillaire who moved up from 6th to fourth on 52.00.  Shane Rose and Koko Black had one rail down but held third position on 51.60 while Emma Scott & Jenbern Monyana also had one rail down for 50.00 but keeping the pressure on the overall leader of the first two phases Katja Weimann & Pluto Mio.   With only 7.6 penalty points in hand Katja Weimann & Pluto Mio knocked down two rails - one late in the course to hand victory to Emma Scott and Jenbern Monyana by less than half a penalty point.

The CIC** was the first class decided of the day with two of the 25 that had completed the cross country withdrawn and again it proved tough with only two clear rounds.  The first was Megan Jones & Westbury Park Irish Grove who remained in fourth position overall on 70.20 while Claudia Graham & Park Street Vision had two rails down to drop to third place overall on 69.20.  Andrew Helestine & Warrego Windchester put the pressure on the leaders with a clear round to finish on 68.40 which proved to be a winning score as Shane Rose & Statford Novalis knocked down two rails to finish on 68.50 with less than a point covering the top three placings.
