Hacks Wednesday saw the first of the Hack classes with the Hack Novice 15-15.2hh going to Chanele Hunter's Crewe from M Haynes' Waterlily with Sarah Mifsud's AP Midnight Diamonds third. Crewe is by Helissio and raced under the name Tarsus. He wasn't successful on the racetrack despite recording 5 placings during his 21 start career having his final run at Queanbeyan. The Hack Novice 15.2-16hh was awarded to Rachael Addison's brown gelding Boyfriend from Stephanie Barrington's Nation with Kerryn Swan's Platinum third. Boyfriend is by El Moxie and was known as Elceptional Goss on the racetrack during his short career of 6 starts for 6 unplaced efforts. Within 18 months of his last run he was at this Royal Show winning his Novice Hack class. Jacqui & Gail Laidlaw's Fame and Honour took out the Hack Novice 16-16.2hh from Kim Joblin's SLM Skyte. Fame and Honour raced as Itsechuca and is by the little known Woodman stallion Campo Catino. As Itsechuca he had 20 starts for 3 wins and 5 placings including two victories at Echuca and one at Swan Hill and made the step up to the city racetracks being placed at Moonee Valley and then being beaten by less than five lengths at Flemington. The final of the Novice Hack classes, over 16.2hh, was taken out by Rebecca Farrow's Stage Lyric from Kerryn Golder's Go With Pride with Catherine Neill's French Cuff third. Stage Lyric is by the successful sire Palace Music from the Zephyr Bay mare Lady Ebeniste and raced as Palazzo Musicale. Palazzo Musicale started 30 times for 5 wins and 5 placings and as a 3yo won at the Gold Coast before starting in the Group 1 Queensland Derby finishing unplaced. Continuing his career in Melbourne he won at Kyneton, Wangaratta (twice) and Kilmore and was placed behind the talented Tall Timbers at Geelong. The following spring he raced during the Caulfield Spring carnival but was unplaced and was spelled until the following year. Turning to hurdle racing he won trial at Ballarat and was second behind Al Garhood with Manzeal third with both those runners going on to become feature jumps race winners during their careers (one has been retired and the other is currently spelling). Best Novice hack went to Rachael Addison's brown gelding Boyfriend. Show Hunter Hack went to Brooke Jenkinson's Pine Plains Lido from Linday Young & Laura Thomas' Time Gallery with Margaret Stuart's Hi-Pine Heritage third. Argyl Stud's Gryffindor took out the prize for the Show Hunter over 16hh and he raced successfully under the name Well Shod. Thursday saw the open hacks take centre stage with the 15-15.2hh class taken out by Chanele Hunter's Crewe from Margot Haynes' Waterlily with Christine Frost's Elmdale Park Precision in third place. The Hack 15.2-16hh went to Leanne Donoghue's Dance For Me from Rachael Addison's brown gelding Boyfriend with Alexandra Berwick's Charming third. The Hack 16-16.2hh was won by Chris Lawrie's Black Tie from RK & TL Notman's MP Galveston with Jacqui & Gail Laidlaw's Fame and Honour third. The Hack over 16.2hh went to L Donoghue & C Mitton's Flawless from C Lawrie & J Jacobson's Inxs with Rebecca Farrow's Stage Lyric third. Flawless raced as Tannice was sired by the wonderful NZ sire Centaine and started his career as a 2yo finishing unplaced behind the future star racehorse and sire Commands. He won at Wyong and Nowra and was placed at Randwick as a 3yo. As a 4yo he won at Hawkesbury but soon relocated to Victoria to continue his career being placed at his first three Victorian starts before a 6th at Sandown. Then tried in Hurdle races he was placed at Sandown and ran 4th at Flemington before being retired with a record of 31 starts 3 wins and 6 placings. Alexandra Berwick's Charming was awarded the Childs Hack from Rose McEvoy's Grazier and Cassandra White's CK Secret Affairs while Charming again took out first place in the Lady's Hack from Stephanie Barrington's LA and Shelley Penny's SP Havana. Gentleman's Hack was awarded to Samantha Fraser's On Fire from Christine Frost's Elmdale Park Cosmopolitan with Monica Croston's Power of Gold third. Friday morning saw the Thoroughbred Hack class which is always keenly contested. This year RK & TL Notman's MP Galveston was awarded the prize from Rose McEvoy's Grazier and L Donoghue & C Mitton's Flawless. All three placegetters had formerly raced with the winner MP Galveston (a full brother to the champion hurdler Marlborough) formerly known as Zabello. Zabello started his race career as a 2yo but it took until he was a summer 4yo to hit true form where he won three of four races at Echuca, Yarra Valley and Ararat before running 4th at Flemington and 3rd at Moonee Valley. As a 5yo he won at Kilmore but soon after spent nearly 10 months away from racing and never regained winning form. Grazier raced as Super Sunrise for 39 starts 6 wins and 15 placings while Flawless racing career is mentioned above.
