Hacks

The first of the Hack classes took place on Saturday being the Hack novice 15-15.2hh which went to W Cock's Shanlin Regal Beaus from C Frost's Elmdale Park Precision and B Stanton's Spirit of Rancher third.  The Show Hunter was next with victory going to S Fraser's On Fire from M&N Bruggemann's Brookman Park Indulgence.  The Hack Novice 15.2-16hh was taken out by M Linehan's Bentley Park Promises from S Barrett's Keats and T Blackwood & K Halliday's Armand.  In the Show Hunter 15-16hh first place went to L Young's Time Gallery from N Afford's Tullaroi Brave Connection while the Hack Novice 16-16.2hh was awarded to T Bussell's Exchequer from S Watkins & D Quayle's Ghirardelli with K Fisher's On Cue third.  Hack Novice over 16.2hh was won by C Lawrie & J Jacobson's INXS from R Hawkes' Boston & R Lawrie's Bond.  The Champion Show Hunter went to S Fraser's On Fire with L Young's Time Gallery taking the Reserve Champion award.  Best Novice Hack went to W Cock's Shanlin Regal Beaus while the EFA Grand Slam Hack event went to R Lawrie's Bond from R&C Struck's Blessed.

On Sunday through the overcast conditions the Hack 15-15.2hh was awarded to C Frost's Elmdale Park Posie from W Cock's Shanlin Regal Beaus.  C Christie & S Merry's Magnifique was successful in the Hack 15.2-16hh while the hack 16-16.2hh went to C Lawrie's Black Tie.  Hack over 16.2hh was taken out by Donoghue & Mitton's Flawless from C Frost's Elmdale Park Cosmopolitan.  Then the heaven's opened and everyone took cover for around 30 minutes until the deluge had cleared and such was the turn around in conditions that the sun was out by the time the workouts for the Thoroughbred hack class were conducted.

The Thoroughbred Hack class brought together a huge field of quality horses many of whom had had careers on the racetrack before moving into the show arena. The winner B Stanton's Spirit of Rancher is a member of that group.  Bred by Frank Camilleri in the Adelaide Hills he was from the Covetous mare Benzine and sired by the flashy superstar sprinter Rancher (winner of 8 stakesraces including the Blue Diamond Stakes).  Spirit of Rancher had 28 race starts and won at Adelaide provincial tracks of Gawler and Strathalbyn.  Since his retirement from racing he has been a regular at the big SA hack shows.  Second placed WS Adelante was known as Brunetti when he raced and is from Rahz and is the half brother to a stakeswinner in Royal Accord.  Brunetti didn't inherit that ability from either his dam or sire (champion racehorse Naturalism) being retired after only two unplaced runs.  In third place was C Frost's Elmdale Park Cosmopolitan  who won Reserve Champion Thoroughbred gelding under his racing name of Headset earlier in the day.  He is by Timber Country and had 10 starts for 1 win.
