Hacks

The first of the Hack classes took place on Tuesday with the Hack Novice 15-15.2hh going to Terry Van Heythuysen's Waltz from Vanessa Andrew-Divita's JV Alibi and Edwina Harrison's Willowcroft Composer.  In the afternoon the rain started and turned into a steady downpour as the competitiors, judges and stewards soldiered on in the conditions.  The Novice Hack 16-16.2hh was awarded to Michelle & Prue Chamberlain's Watergate from Rebecca Allen & Jacky Winter with Cassandra White's CK Secret Affairs third.  Corumbene Stud's English took out the Hack Novice over 16hh from Samantha Kennedy's Famous with Carolyn Burton's Lochie's Boy third. 

Wednesday morning and the weather had improved with many sunny breaks in between the light showers.  In bright sunshine the Gentleman's Hack was decided with victory going to J&G Laidlaw's Night of Fame from C Frost & F Christie's Dashing with Sally Watkins & David Quayle's DQ Chalmers third.  The Hack 15-15.2hh went to C Frost & F Christie's Elmdale Park Poise from D&L Vella's Wingrove Image with Sabrina Jaeschke's Simla Road third.  A & C Reid & M Christie's Flirting took out the Hack 15.2-16hh from Sally Watkins & David Quayle's DQ Chalmer with Brian Scholes & Gary Beaton's Lemracs Dancing Poet third.  First place for the Hack 16-16.2hh was awarded to J&G Laidlaw's Night of Fame from Margot Haynes' Grazier with Michelle & Prue Chamberlain's Watergate third.  As the dark clouds started to appear again another quality group of hacks came out for the Hack over 16.2hh class with Lyndale Stables & J Jacobson's DP Idol winning from L Donoghue & C MItton's Flawless with Alyssia Giustozzi's Bright Forest third.  Misty rain returned for the next class as Margot Haynes & Grazier won the Lady's Hack from Sophie Coleman's Top That of Astral with Adele Gardiner's French Resort third.

On Thursday the weather was even colder with overcast conditions and a freezing cold wind.  D&L Vella's Wingrove Image tookout the Hack 65kg from Brian Scholes & G Beaton's Lemracs Dancing Poet with Sabrina Jaeschke's Simla Road third.  A huge field contested the Thoroughbred Hack where Brian Scholes & G Beaton's Lemracs Dancing Poet was awarded first place from Sally Watkins & David Quayle's DQ Chalmer with L Donoghue & Charlotte Mitton's Flawless third.  DQ Chalmer was a popular racehorse when known as Skinjite and was very successful during his Victorian racing career.  He still has many fans in the racing world.  Another very successful show horse who also excelled on the racetrack is Margot Haynes' Grazier who continued his winning streak in taking out the Hack 75kg from Sally Watkin & David Quayle's DQ Chalmer with C Frost & F Christie's Dashing third.  The Hack 90kg class was taken out by Shelley Penny's SP Havana from Alyssia Giustozzi's Bright Forest with Corunbene Stud's English in third place.  The sun finally came out for the final hack class of the day the EFA Regional Grand Slam where Grazier put in another faultless performance for Margot Haynes to be the clear winner.

Friday morning began with the judging of the Child's Hack class where first place was taken by J&G Laidlaw's Night of Fame from Michelle & Prue Chamberlain's Watergate with Sabrina Jaeschke's Simla Road third.  The Show Hunter 15-16hh was won by R Farran's WP Imagine from Lindy Young's Time Gallery with Colleen Smith's Dancer's Plea third.  The Show Hunter over 16hh went to the eyecatching grey of Shae Hanger in War Wind from Charlotte Thomson's Gryffindor with Shelley Penny's SP Havana third.  Again the showers set in for Champion Hack which was awarded to A&C Reid & M Christie's Flirting with Reserve Champion going to Lyndale Stables & J Jacobson's DP Idol.  The Champion Show Hunter was decided in heavy showers with Champion Show Hunter going to Shae Hanger's War Wind with R Farran's WP Imagine Reserve Champion.
