ADELAIDE ROYAL SHOW
South Australia
31st August - 8th September, 2001

Adelaide Royal Day 4

Monday opened with the promise of sunshine though by lunch a heavy downpour during the presentation of the pairs event put paid to any thought of this being the first fine day of the show. In the news it has been reported that Adelaide has received the average rainfall for all of September in just the first three days of the month.

The second jumping event was round one of the Grand Prix Jumping Contest with part two deciding the competition later in the early afternoon. After the two jumping rounds New Zealand Showjumping Team's Mitavite Imperial ridden by Ann Wilson was victorious from fellow New Zealander Maurice Beatson and Duty Free. The third showjumping contest of the day was a Junior One Round Jumping Contest where the junior riders had to not only try to jump clear but finish in the fastest time as there is no jump off in this event. Despite the ever darkening conditions as another shower rolled in Rebekka Stubing and Willy Go won from Matthew Afford & Family Ties and Leigh Shera-Jones and Get A Grip.

The ridden events began with the Junior Champion Equestrienne for girl riders aged 12 to 15 years. Unlike the other ridden classes there is no group workout as each entrant is first judged for turnout (both rider and horse) before completing an individual workout. The three stages are judged by three different judges with the competitor scores added up from each phase to produce the overall winner. The winner of the Junior award was Lauren Fisher riding S Kennedy's Farleigh Lytton while Reserve Champion went to Jessica Barton riding Kista Park Coronation. The Parent and Child Riding contest was next and is ridden in similar fashion to a pairs class with the child to be under 14 years. Taking first place this year was Alexandra and MA Jacobi from Caitlin and JC Baker with Sara and SJ Warren in third. After lunch the Champion Junior Rider under 14 years was decided with Amanda Goldsbury taking out the top award as Tess Carroll was named Reserve Champion. The final event for the day was the Pair of Riders 10 to 14 years with Tess Carroll and Tiffany Greenhill teaming up to take out the event from Melissa Karutz and Emily Swaffield with Mardi Montgomerie and Caitlin Winen third.

The Pony Hack 13 to 14hh was next where Lauren Vella's Raleigh Summer Premiere proved victorious from Caitlin Winen's Kirreway Cartier and D McKay's Phantom Park Empress. The Pair of Pony Hacks ne 14hh was judged under darkening skies and ultimately the presentation was in the middle of a heavy downpour - the only noticeable rainfall until late afternoon. Despite the conditions Melissa Karutz's Lesfield Toymaster and Rani Quinton's Falconhurst Bobcat were placed first after working well together throughout the event. Second place was taken by Caitlin Winen's Kirreway Cartier and C Comley's Rosedale Ribbons while third was Tara Carroll's Malibu Watercolours and S Lindeman & Silkwood Stud's Silkwood September Rain.

Meanwhile the finalists in the championship for the Champion Show Hunter Pony endured the rain for individual workouts that decided the winner. As the rain stopped Emily Swaffield's Hazelmere Willow was presented the prize with NL Gordon's Windsor Lodge Fancy Feet named as the runner up. As the weather improved the Galloway Hack 14.2hh to 15hh was decided with Lyndale Stables & L Warburton's KB Superstar winning from CA Matheson's Yarramie Ants Pants and CS Mitton's Sanlirra Spellbound third. The Champion Child's Pony Hack was chosen as S Lindeman & Silkwood Stud's Silkwood September Rain while the Reserve Champion was R & C Gale's Imperial Pippa. As the skies darkened the Show Hunter 14 to 15hh class was decided with victory going to W Cock & F McInnes' Glitz II from T-E Hofmann's Springwood Carnival Time and Catherine Moroney's Lesam Shades.

In the Harness Classes the Harness Pony non-hackney 12 to 13hh went to Avery Family's Acheron Dalen while CF James' Charnwood Little Sky took out the prize for the Most Authentic Horse Drawn Passenger Type Vehicle. The Harness Pony non hackney not exceeding 12hh was awarded to L Knuchel's Owendale Tristan while the Agricultural Farm Implement class was won by TA & LM Adriaans Glenquarry Braveheart. The final harness event for the day was the Ride and Drive class with victory going to W Kennedy & H&S Edwards Mr Magnificent.

The novelties races closed the day with the Open Thread and Needle Race going to C Lang's Barastoc Red Robin before the Muscial Chairs races extending into the early evening. The Musical Chairs Gentleman Riders over 17 years went to Ebondale Stud's Jive Bunny while K Rehn's Hot Shot took out the Lady Riders over 17 edition. The Junior Musical Chairs for boy riders 13 to 17 years went to WR Andry's Karsha Silver Sands while the girl rider version went to E Scott's Moonlight Serenade. The final race the Musical Chairs for riders under 13 years was taken out by Ebondale Stud's Jive Bunny from KJ Harris' Little Rascal.
