ADELAIDE ROYAL SHOW
South Australia
31st August - 8th September, 2001

Adelaide Royal Day 2

Despite the dire forecasts the weather had eased by Saturday morning with the sun being out early. Minutes into the first equestrian classes the rain started with light showers. This led to the odd heavy showers and in between short periods of sun soon followed by light rain. By mid afternoon the sky began to look more ominous and by nightfall the rain had set in.

Next the Pony Hack 12-12.2hh (rider's age to be under 14 years) was decided with Rebecca Whitehead's liver chestnut mare Dunelm Lace awarded the prize from J Langley's Langtree Cartier and Tiffany Greenhill's Warrendi Lodge Exquisite. A Payne & E Duddy's Mirinda Harlequin was awarded Pony Hack 12.2-13hh from Parham Feeding Services' Kirreway Bronze Edition and KR White's Langtree First Impressions. The Lady's Galloway Hack was the largest class of the show so far and it took a final joint workout between the top two placegetters to decide the prize. In the deteriorating weather CA Matherson's Yarramie Ants Pants took first place from J Librio's Neenah's Serenade with Fiona Graham's Sanlirra Delight third.

Meanwhile the Pony Hack ne 12hh went to R& C Gale's Imperial Pippa with Ellie Clark's Foxmore Fanfare second and J&P Groecke's Fairlight Acres Matthew third. Late in the afternoon Pony Hack 13-13.2hh was taken out by Lyndale Stables & A Penlurick's Helden Park Calendar Girl from D&S McMahon's Mirinda King's Ransom and CS Mitton's Mirinda Royal Emblem. The Gentleman's Galloway Hack 14hh-15hh went to J Best's Twain with second awarded to J Athanasoff's Fairoak Venture and A Crichton's Gumflat Winston third. The final ridden event of the day was the Pony Hack 11.2hh-12hh where riders had to be aged under 12 years. Jordan Sassine's Tooravale Olivia was successful from Isabelle Barker's Rivington Amanda and Ellie Clark's Foxmore Fanfare. Competitors in the Lady's Galloway Hack and the Gentleman's Galloway Hack classes were to be ridden respectively by a lady rider and gentleman rider aged over 18 years.

Saturday's Rider classes started with the Boy Rider 10 to 12 years with victory going to Max McKay from Trent Godden and Paul Blake. The next class was the Good Hands Competition Championships for boys and girls 12 years and under. Louise Clancy was awarded the prize after a classy workout from Melissa Karutz and Lucy Forrest.

The second class went to Rebecca Allen and Lorikeet from Fiddler ridden by Vicki Roycroft while the final class was won by Anthony Thomas and Classic Style with New Zealand's Ann Wilson and Mitavite Imperial second and fellow New Zealander Maurice Beatson riding Duty Free third.

The first of the novelty competitions began with the Bending race for Gentlemen riders 17 years and over. Ebondale Stud's The Reflex was too good for C Willing's Fanmail and C Lang's Barastoc Red Robin. It was then the Ladies turn for the over 17 years where Barastoc Red Robin gained revenge for his earlier defeat from The Reflex with D Bowden's Dalpura Puffin third. The third and final novelty race of the day was the Junior Bending race where Heidi Bruggerman's Evil Angel won from WR Andary's Karsha Silver Sands and The Reflex.

There were five harness events decided on the day starting with the Harness Horse non hackney novice over 14hh where R Boyer's Chadwick was placed on top before again collecting the prize in the Harness Horse non hackney over 15hh. The Pleasure Turnout was awarded to CF James' Charnwood Little Sky while Avery Family's Acheron Midnight was successful in the Harness Pony non hackney 13hh-14hh.
