Royal Day 1 Despite weather
forecasts that the first day of the show would again be wet the sun was out early becoming
overcast as the equestrian events began. Unfortunately the forecast rain did appear mid
afternoon but nothing like the downpours endured on the first day last year.
The ridden classes started with
the Pony Hack Novice (ne 12hh) where T Madigan's Balena Bo-Peep proved successful from R
& C Gale's Imperial Pippa with Tegan Jaeschke's Mornington Sweet Occasion placed
third. The Pony Hack Novice (12hh-12.2hh) was a keenly contested affair with Rebecca
Whitehead's Dunelm Lace winning from D & S McMahon's Leanda Tiger Lily and AA Egel's
Lesfield Showtown. Parham Feeding Services' Kirreway Bronze Edition took out the Pony Hack
Novice (12.2hh-13hh) from KR White's Langtree First Impressions with Melissa Karutz's
Lesfield Toymaster placed third. The Shetland Pony Hack class was small but keenly
contested with M Mitchell's Otway View Oriana finishing on top from KL Smith's Pentland
Becky and H Lundquist's Poplars Farm Possum. During the early judging of the Galloway Hack
Novice (14.2hh-15hh) there was some drama as one of the entrants broke loose of his rider
and careered through the area until being caught after stopping to pick at the grass.
Fiona Graham's Sanlirra Delight was victorious after order had been restored. Meanwhile at
the other end of the arena the Pony Hack Novice (13hh-13.2hh) was being decided. A
Oliver-Watkins' grey gelding Kirreway Dignify winning from KR White's Langtree Legend as J
Langley's Silkwood Heavens Above took third. There was only a small class for the Pony
Hack (not exceeding 11hh) where Lauren Vella's Glengwin Crisial was successful and for the
Pony Hack (11hh-11.2hh) with T Madigan's Balena Bo Peep proving successful. To close the
day the Galloway Hack Novice (14hh-14.2hh) and Pony Hack Novice (13.2hh - 14hh) were
decided with victory going to C Comley's Rosedale Serenity and Lauren Vella's Raleigh
Summer Premiere respectively.
