| The South Australian
Horse Of The Year was held at John Vaughan Park over the weekend of February 9th &
10th. The first class to be decided was the Champion Junior Rider under 14 years. Victory went to Melissa Karutz for the second successive year from Caitlin Graham. The Champion Junior Rider 14-18 years was awarded to Lesley Burrows who has now won three times in a row with Reserve Champion going to Edwina Harrison. The Senior Rider was taken out by Rachel Lawrie who emulated her feats of 1996, 1997 and 2001 from Margot Haynes who has previously won in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The Waverly Festivity Trophy for Newcomer of the Year was taken out by the galloway Woodbine Watermark ridden by Margot Haynes for V & C Lawrie. The afternoon program saw the Owner-Rider classes decided. First was the Owner-Rider Pony ne 14hh won by Sanlirra Parasol owned by Belinda Edelbauer from Kirreway Cartier ridden by Jessica Winen. The Owner-Rider Galloway went to Jill Best's Twain from Summerfields 1 owned by Tarlee Freeman. The final class of the day was the Owner-Rider Show Horse which went to Penny Verco's Inferno from Rachel Lawrie's Millionaire. Sunday saw two rings in operation with the Horse of the Year heats in ring 2 and the Show Hunter classes in ring one. The Show Hunter Hack only attracted a small field but plenty of quality as Millionaire ridden by Rachel Lawrie was named champion from Jessie Heron's Charisma. Another small field greeted the judge in the Show Hunter Galloway where Marie Hawkins' Buronga Rasputin was named Champion for the second year running from Marapona Dance Master owned by Angela Symons. In the Show Hunter Pony Kirreway Trend owned by Kim Hunt was named the Champion from Karla Vandenbroek's The Ambassador. During the lunch break the Leading Rein Pony Of the year was decided and Corumbene's Trentlyn Liberty took out the event for the fourth successive year with R & C Gale's Imperial Pippa named as the Reserve. The title awards were decided on Sunday afternoon. The Pony of the Year ne 12.2hh (rider under 15 years) went to Imperial Pippa ridden by Mardie Montgomery with Tessa Hughes and Corumbene Success named as the Reserve. The Large Pony of the Year was next with the Champion award going to Charlotte Mitton's Mirinda Royal Emblem. It was Mirinda Royal Emblem's second successive victory and it was the 6th time in the last 7 years Charlotte Mitton has owned the winner (1998-2002 in succession). The Galloway of the Year was decided without heats as there was only 11 entries and with one withdrawal all ten were given the opportunity to take part in the final decision. KB Superstar ridden by Chris Lawrie was named Champion for the fourth successive year while Twain owned and ridden by Jill Best was named Reserve. The final event of the two days was the SA Show Horse of the Year. Kings ridden by Chris Lawrie was awarded the Champion sash for the third successive year with Inferno owned and ridden by Penny Verco taking the Reserve award. This years judges were Annamarie Paratene from New Zealand who judged the ponies on Saturday and the Leading Rein on Sunday, Carmel Perkins from Queensland who judged the Galloways, Libby Haworth from Victoria who judged the Show Horses and Andrea Riedel-Carrison who judged the Owner Rider and Show Hunter classes. |
